A Report Of Medical English Translation Based On Nida’s Four Stages In The Translation Process

Looking at the status quo in China,Chinese citizens’ health literacy is not optimistic,which has become a bottleneck that restricts the development of medical care services.The dramatic growth in the economy has not reduced the incidence of disease;on the contrary,health crises such as sub-health and chronic diseases are worrisome.Under the initiative of"Healthy China Strategic Planning",shift of the public health model to the path of "Health Care and Good Health" helps reshape the concept of health and improve people’s well being.The author of this report participated in the E-C translation of medical English,including popular science texts related to sub-health,and chronic diseases.The E-C translation of medical English popular science texts helps the public realize the seriousness of chronic diseases and sub-health better,and reduce the incidence of these diseases effectively.The approach of Nida’s Four Stages in the Translation Process began in the 1970s,and his idea was based on Chomsky’s transformational-generative grammar.Guided by Nida’s Four Stages in the Translation Process and in combination with the E-C translation of medical English popular science texts,the author analyzed the characteristics of long and short sentences,and discourse structures systematically,expounded the four stages of"analysis-transfer-reconstructing-testing" in the translation process,and explored effective translation methods,which could provide more specific methods for the final translation and reduce mistranslations to a minimum.The results of this study show that Nida’s Four Stages in the Translation Process can be effectively applied to the translation practice of medical English popular science texts,which is conducive to improving the translation quality and customer satisfaction,and has certain guiding significance for the translation of medical English popular science texts.is conducive to improving the translation quality and customer satisfaction,and has certain guiding significance for the translation of medical English popular science texts.
