Research On Dante Lam’s Genre Films

Recently,Dante Lam,as one of the many Hong Kong directors,rises as a new force in the movie industry.His works have won many awards,and he himself has won high praise from Hong Kong and mainland audience.He persists in his genre of films and adheres to the reality.His distinctive features impressed the audience deeply.Therefore,we must have an in-depth interpretation of his works.This paper explores his works.It starts with the background and genre of the movie,focuses on the police and gangster film,sports film,and war film directed by Dante Lam,discovers his style and genre with an in-depth interpretation of his creation.Also,it attempts to identify his style for different genres of films,and eventually draw a conclusion of his art standards and constantly evolving art innovation.Chapter one is about his film creations in the context of genre.Firstly,this chapter gives an analysis of the origin,development and evolution of genre film.Second,it classified his previous works according to the concept of genre film,thus exploring his directing style.Chapter two is about the rule and choice in his police and gangster films.The style of his police and gangster films is analyzed from three perspectives: character,content and image style.The relationships between characters is analyzed from the point of the police and the gangster.In his films,the expression and test of human nature are hidden in the jianghu(the world of the ordinary people)and the temple(the world of the government officials),which are separately represented by the gangsters and police.Also,the image style-romantic and realistic-is unfolded by the conflict between the police and the gangster.Chapter three is about his sports films-inheritance and growth.The origin,development,stagnation and flourishing of Chinese sports films are explored,on the basis of an description of the history of world sports films.Then,the sports spirit of his sports films is analyzed from the theme,image effect,and character development.Chapter four is about the attractiveness and tension of his war films.The inner tension of his war films is analyzed from the point of attraction films.The real scene of overseas Chinese evacuation is presented through adapting true event and reconstructing characters.This paper explores how Dante Lam uses his war films to construct national image,amidst the transformation of ideology,with the national symbol of building a community with shared future for mankind.
