Situation semantics is a semantic framework developed on the basis of the possible world semantics, which provides some new approaches to the study of various phenomena in natural language semantics.Situation Semantics Brings the Concept of Situation to the Study of Semantics to replace the concept of possible world, and puts forward a new view to solve the problem of attitude attribution.Possible world lacks cognitive details, and the situation makes up for that.We can’t recognize the world as a whole, because there are too many things in the world to be our cognitive object directly. The situation is different. It can be regarded as our cognitive object directly, and it is also the cognitive unit of our cognition. We recognize situations in the external world through our own sense organs. There are various individuals in situations. These individuals have various properties and are in various relationships. In the process of cognition of the individual,we will categorize individuals through the properties of individuals to form various cognitive categories. In the process of cognizing the situation, various situation types will also be formed, that is,cognitive models.Situations are also in various relationships.Such relationships are constraints, and constraints allow one situation to contain information about another. Therefore, the concept of situation is a cognitive concept. The introduction of the concept of situation makes situation semantics have an advantage over possible world semantics when dealing with attitude attribution.Since Frege, the development of semantics has emphasized the accuracy and objectivity of language,so it has always been opposed to introducing psychological factors into semantic analysis, even to the semantic analysis of natural language. However, language is not only an accurate reference system, but also a tool for human beings to express their own knowledge and attitude towards the outside world, which is based on human cognitive ability,So antipsychological semantic research ignores many important features of language.Situation semantics is to incorporate psychological factors into the study of semantics, and believes that the fuzziness of natural language will make natural language have a stronger expression ability in combination with human’s own cognitive ability. Therefore, this paper will analyze situation semantics from the perspective of cognition, explore how situation semantics reintroduces psychological factors excluded by Frege into semantic research, and discuss the rationality of this approach. In situation semantics, the concept of situation appears as part of the world, because the concept of the world is a larger concept and lacks detail,so it encounters difficulties in the problem of attitude attribution. The concept of situation has a certain structure and content, which can reflect the real details in language. This paper will introduce some important view of situation semantics, and then combining with the theory of cognitive linguistics,to interpret the essence and characteristics of the concepts such as situation, situation type and constraint from the perspective of cognition, these concepts are formed on the basis of our perception of the outside world. Finally, this paper will compare with formal semantics, which excludes psychological factors, and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of situation semantics in attitude attribution.Situational semantics equates a proposition expressed in a sentence to a set of real possible situations, but this is not accurate enough.A proposition should be an indirect reference by a property to a situation that has that property, because the proposition represents only a property of the situation, not the situation itself.Whether propositions expressing different attributes of the same situation are equal depends on the cognitive level of the cognitive subject of the discourse.
