| With the development of the Chinese culture,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)is going global.The TCM concept of holism and treatment based on syndrome differentiation is increasingly recognized by the international community.Between July and August 2019,the reporter attended the TCM Clinic Course Project jointly held by Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University.The reporter worked as a liaison interpreter to interpret the clinical dialogues between doctors and patients in TCM pediatric clinics of Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Australian students who major in TCM.The project was mainly concerned with medical interpretation from Chinese to English.Based on the reporter’s interpreting experience,this report discusses the problematic points of pediatric clinical interpretation encountered in the interpretation process,including lack of profession-related knowledge,difficulty in on-site information integration,and lack of crosscultural awareness.To solve these problems,the reporter put forward three solutions through the analysis of specific examples.Firstly,acquiring profession-related knowledge,such as building a bilingual corpus.Secondly,improving response to unexpected situations.Thirdly,enhancing cross-cultural awareness.The reporter hopes the above strategies will contribute to the international students’ more efficient learning of Traditional Chinese Medicine.Besides,the reporter pays attention to the interpreting of Traditional Chinese Medicine culture to better disseminate TCM culture to Australia and the international community as a whole.As a result,the international status of traditional Chinese medicine may be improved. |
