| In the past decades,with the development of cultural communications between China and the outside world,foreign autobiographies became popular among Chinese readers.Therefore,various autobiographic translations are booming at the right moment.The autobiographical culture presents a diversified trend in form,which contains multi-angled perspectives and rich contents,reflecting the author’s spirit in the pursuit of freedom and dream.Autobiography is somewhere between the informative and expressive text types.Hence,an autobiographical translation can achieve communicative effects and social effects.This translation report centres on the translation of six chapters from Cinder Girl published in 2019,written by Christina Meredith.The report covers the translation purpose and a few translation methods under the Skopos theory,anticipating that it will shed light on autobiographical translation.The translation report is mainly divided into five chapters.Chapter One is an introduction to the translation report,which presents the content of Cinder Girl.Chapter Two covers a process description.Chapter Three introduces the Skopos theory and its three principles,along with some specific translation methods.Chapter Four is the most important part of this project,with cases studies carried out under the Skopos theory.Guided by Skopos theory,the translator analyzes the source text from three levels and selects various translation methods accordingly.At the lexical level,the translator analyzes the title of the book,pronouns,and words with implied meanings by amplification and omission.At the syntactical level,the translator analyzes the translation of double negative sentences and complex sentences by restructuring.At the cultural level,the translator centres on the translation of excerpts from the Bible and cultural terms by annotation.Chapter Five sums up the experience and limitations of this translation report.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the translator always puts the reading habit of Chinese readers in a decisive position in the whole process and continuously enhances the readability of the translation. |
