Research On Prison Perimeter Architecture Design

The prison perimeter building— as prison buildings with double functional definitions(including internal criminal supervision function and external families meeting function),controlling all channels from inside to outside,guarding boundary and entrance safety,which has a higher requirements on supervision than other prison buildings.However,China's prisons were constructed in early times,the contradiction exists between the lack of security in layout and plane function of perimeter building and the higher supervision requirements in modern prison,which makes it an urgent demand to improve the status of the prison perimeter building,but the architectural design theory on the prison perimeter building is extremely absent.Based on the present situation,combined with the prison design projects and the related prison design studies I participated in,the article would not only concludes the design strategy but also organizing and standardizing the characteristics of the prison perimeter architecture.The author firstly explains the influence of the concept of criminal law on the prison perimeter building layout and function,and evolution of perimeter architectural features in different historical periods,article also clarifies the new requirements of the new concept of criminal law on the perimeter building development,exploring the development trend of the prison perimeter building.Through detailed investigation of several medium prison perimeter,author obtain a large number of basic data,through the induction,comparison and analysis,summing up the characteristics in the layout and plane function(prison access,family meeting building,wall watchtower)of the prison perimeter building,points out problems in prisoner supervision and family meeting and direction of strategies.To the layout problem,this paper analyzed security degree in layout of prison access and family meeting building,wall and watchtower,resulting in design strategies of different security in different prison's supervision requirements;then analyzing specificdesign strategies for plane function problem in single building.Finally,summarizing the design strategy in two aspects and giving the limitations.This project is an effective improvement and supplement to the theory of prison architecture design,and can be better adapted to prison design work.However,with the change happens,prison construction will show new changes,a sustained,in-depth and effective research on its design logic and strategy is of great significance.
