Along with the increasing aging of China, the research on aging has become the focus and research focus of government departments and academia. When China enters an aging society,it is still in a state of “not getting rich first”,and China needs to open up a path of healthy aging with Chinese characteristics. For middle-aged and elderly people, spouses play a vital role in their daily lives and play a key role in protecting their health. At present, most studies in China mainly use traditional statistical methods to empirically study the relationship between marriage and the health level of middleaged and elderly people.Traditional methods such as multiple regression, logistic regression and analysis of variance are used to study the health of marriage and the elderly. The biggest flaw in the relationship is that it does not take into account the endogeneity of model and selectivity bias between health and marriage caused by heterogeneity between samples. Therefore, this paper uses the propensity score matching statistical method to solve the endogeneity problem by controlling the heterogeneity of the sample as much as possible,so as to get an accurate estimation of the influence of widowhood on the health level of middle-aged and elderly people, and avoid bias.Through the empirical analysis results, the following conclusions are obtained:(1)Widowhood has a significant negative effect on the physical and mental health of middle-aged and elderly people. However, there are differences in the effects of the two levels of health, and the negative effects of widowhood on mental health levels are more pronounced. The negative effects of widowhood on the physical health of middleaged and elderly people have long-term effects, which are not obvious in the short term, and widowhood has a significant negative effect on the mental health of middle-aged and elderly people, but its negative effects will gradually weaken over time.(2)From the perspective of gender, age group and education level,it is found that the negative effects of widowhood on psychological and physical health have obvious gender differences. The negative effect of widowhood is more significant for women;widowhood for middle-aged and elderly people The physiological health has a significant negative effect, but the negative effect of widowhood on the mental health of middle-aged people is more significant;there is an educational difference in the negative effect of widowhood on the health level, which is more significant in the loweducation population.Although there is influence in the high education,it is not significant.(3)The occurrence of widowhood incident has not had a significant impact on the physical health of middle-aged and elderly people, but the death of the spouse has had a huge impact on the mental health of the middle-aged and elderly people, and the negative impact of the widowhood incident on the mental health of the middle-aged and elderly people is It existed before widowhood and was further enlarged after being widowed.Based on this, this paper puts forward the following suggestions: First, actively promote and establish a health and health service center for widowed people, and strengthen the establishment and dynamic management of health records for the elderly.Second, provide targeted health services guidance to widowed seniors.Third, gradually establish and improve the social pension and medical security system, and improve the level of medical and endowment insurance services.Fourth, strengthen policy guidance in relevant areas to ensure that relevant policies are implemented.
