Comparative Study On Women's Water Polo Offensive Tactics Between Team China And The Top 3 In 2017 World Championship

Purpose:The aim of this study is to identify the characteristics of offensive tactics of China women's water polo team and the Top 3 in 2017 World Championships and summarize the weaknesses of Team China.The results could promote the understanding of offensive tactics in women's water polo games and support Team China to develop more targeted training programs in the future.Methods:26(Team China and Team USA completed 6 games each,and Team Spain and Team Russia completed 7 games each)games were considered.Sports Code was applied to analyze offensive performance indicators.Python 3.0 was used for creating a score map for each team.Results:For all the teams,the use of even offensive actions were more than 70%,the counterattacks were lower than 14%,and power-play actions were around 15%.Compared with the losing games,winning games had fewer even offensive actions(p=0.038),higher game scores(p=0.036),and hit rate(p=0.002).And the hit rates of winning teams in Area 6 and Area 8 higher(p=0.013,p=0.041).The scores of winning teams scores in the first and third quarters were higher(p=0.044,p=0.014).Team China had the lowest scores of even offensive actions in all the teams(p=0.000,p=0.006,p=0.002)and the number of turnover was more than Team USA and Team Russia(p=0.001,p=0.031).There was no significant difference of the scores of counterattacks and power-play actions between Team China and the Top 3.The center forward of Team Spain made more exclusions than Team China(p=0.048),the number of turnover was more than Team USA(p=0.024),and the number of misplaced pass was more than Team Russia(p=0.026).Conclusion: Team China does well in counterattacks and power-play actions but is bad at outsides shooting,controlling passing erros and scoring at 1stand 3rdquarter.Team USA(the Champion)is able to perform offensive tactics effectively and has a strong ability to control turnovers.The center forward of Team Spain(the 2ndplace)is good at making exclusions,and there are two great shooters in the backhand,but the team could not control turnovers very well.Team Russia(the 3ndplace)is relatively better at even offensive actions and controlling turnovers.Even offensive actions are the most important offensive tactic in women's water polo.The number,scores and hit rate of even offensive actions,the scores and hit rate around the 5m line,the scores and the hit rate of the first and third quarter are the factors that determine the outcome of the games.
