The Formation Logic Of Village Trend

Development is the core issue and consensus of rural society in the face of modernization process.However,what is development and how to develop is A problem that needs constant exploration.This paper attempts to take M village and J village of A town in southern gansu province as examples to make A tentative study on this issue.M and J village is a typical "half work half till" model village,researchers in 2016 to 2018,the field observation found that the two villages in nearly a decade revealed a very different development trend: in 2008,for industry,M village villagers even people and families moved to the town,there are 60% of the villagers,scattered in the town,village of the villagers in gradually fade out M at the same time actively into the ingoing ground life,the development trend of village as a whole is outgoing;In contrast,in J village,although 50% of the villagers already own real estate in the city,their focus of life is still in the village,and the village as a whole shows an inward trend.Based on the above situation,the author's research question is:how can two villages in the same town with similar geographical location show two distinct development trends of outward and inward in just ten years? This paper attempts to discuss the internal logic of village development by analyzing the difference of village development,and further discuss the diversified path of village development.The research used field research,in-depth interview and participant observation to collect the necessary data.It is found that the development of villages is the result of the interplay of authority structure and endogenous dynamics.Endogenous driving force mainly refers to the level of economic development,village culture and village elite under the practice of natural environment,and the authority structure mainly refers to the leadership authority of the village committees.Endogenous dynamics andauthority structure shape the direction of the village through the decisive role of project resources.For village J,a good authority structure and sufficient endogenous driving force obtain the resources needed for the development of the village and promote the comprehensive development of the village.More importantly,the process and results of resource acquisition will strengthen the villagers' identification with the village,which is conducive to the construction of the village community,thus guiding the development of the village internally.Bad M village limited endogenous power and authority structure is the combination of the marginalized in the process of access to the resources of the project,not only can not get policy resources,to promote the development of village villagers is often forgotten experience "deprivation" and "shame" of village,this is not only conducive to village reconstruction of endogenous power excitation and good authority structure,and will lead to the disintegration of village community,which will guide the development of external village.This paper holds that the development of villages follows two logics: one is to achieve inward development by relying on sufficient endogenous power and good authority structure;Second,due to the limited endogenous power and the poor authority structure,villagers rely on their own strength to achieve outward development.This actually represents two different development paths of villages,namely the inward development in the village construction and the outward development in the village construction.The latter has many similarities with the "hollowing out" in the academic world.However,this study believes that the concept of "hollowing out" is too rigid and ignores the initiative of village development.It will be helpful for us to have an objective and neutral discussion on the two different village trends of introversion and extroversion under the diversified path of village development.
