Junior high school is a special and important place for individuals.During this period,students' physical and psychological changes are significant,and their academic pressure also increases with the growth of the grade.Academic achievement is an important index to measure the psychological adaptation and academic performance of junior high school students.Students with high academic achievement tend to have higher self-confidence and peer support,while students with low academic achievement tend to have peer rejection,loneliness,anxiety and other adjustment problems.Therefore,it is of great significance and value to explore the influencing factors of junior high school students' academic achievement.Studies have shown that teens who perceive higher parental,peer,or teacher support do better in school and achieve more academically.However,few studies have explored the mechanism.There are many factors that affect students' academic achievement,but the most important one is students' internal psychological factors.Hope plays an irreplaceable role in the development of physical and mental health of individuals.Students with high level of hope have good pathway thoughts and agency thoughts,it can work hard to achieve the goals it has set in a reasonable way,As a result,they can get better psychological adaptation and academic performance.In addition,as a positive motivation for individual,school engagement enables individuals to cope with learning tasks with a positive mental attitude and good psychological resilience,so it gets good learning results.Research has shown that individuals perceive higher levels of social support,can experience a higher sense of hope,have high learning motivation and school engagement,as a result,they get good psychological adaptation and academic results.Therefore,this study starts from the internal psychological factors of students,explore the mediating mechanism of hope and academic engagement between perceived social support and academic achievement.In the present study,540 students from Jinan of Shandong province completed measures of perceived social support scale,learning engagement scale and adolescent hope scale,the study collected students' last significant academic achievement as a measure of academic achievement.This study examined the relationship between perceived social support and academic achievement of junior high school students and the mediating role of hope and learning engagement.We used SPSS22.0 with PROCESS plug-in and AMOS24.0 for the data processing.The main findings are displayed as follows:1.Perceived social support has a significant positive correlation with the academic achievement of junior high school students.Perceived social support could significantly positively predict academic achievement.2.Perceived social support is positively associated to hope.Hope is positively associated to academic achievement.Perceived social support significantly positively predicts hope,hope significantly positively predicts academic achievement.Hope plays a mediating role between perceived social support and academic achievement.3.Perceived social support is positively associated to academic engagement.Academic engagement is positively associated to academic achievement.Perceived social support significantly positively predicts academic engagement,academic engagement.could significantly positively predict academic engagement.Academic engagement plays a mediating role between perceived social support and academic achievement.4.Both hope and academic engagement play a part in mediating between perceived social support and academic achievement of junior high school students.Perceived social support can not only directly improve the academic achievement of junior high school students,but also indirectly improve their academic achievement by increasing their hope or academic investment.Hope and learning engagement play a chain mediating role between perceived social support and academic achievement of junior high school students.Perceived social support can increase the hope of junior high school students,which in turn increases their learning involvement,thus improving their academic achievement.The results of this study indicate that there is a significant positive correlation between perceived social support and academic achievement of junior high school students,perceived social support can not only directly improve the academic achievement of junior high school students,but also improve their academic achievement by increasing their hope and learning engagement.Students can only have a positive impact if they agree with the support of their parents and school,this suggests that we should pay attention to students' perceived level of social support.Hope and learning engagement mediate the chain between perceived social support and academic achievement in junior high school students,perceived social support can increase the hope of junior high school students,which in turn increases their learning involvement,thus improving their academic achievement,this enlightens us to pay more attention to the cultivation of students' positive internal psychological traits,help them improve their level of hope and commitment to learning engagement,improve students' perception of hope,some analysis and guidance are given to junior high school students with low learning involvement,improve students' academic achievement.
