In 2017,a short video of a bouncing dice in an underground garage was booming, and the internet celebrity Wen Wan was quickly promoted to a tens of millions of traffic in a short period of time with “Gucci Gucci Prada Prada”.With heavy make-up and under the banner of minors, she promoted the wrong values of “learning mathematics and physics not better than being an internet celebrity and acknowledging a father”,which caused a huge response on the Internet.Due to the simple production process of short videos, the low production threshold, and the imperfect protection tools for minors, various types of negative news broke out one after another. With the increase in personal mobile device ownership and the development of the short video industry, young users use excessively short video apps in their spare time, resulting in chaos. The short video flaunt wealth content combined with the real situation and the internet celebrity segment is presented to the younger users in an extremely exaggerated, funny and playful entertainment mode. While gaining a sense of pleasure, they cannot deeply reflect on the materialist values and ideas hidden behind the flaunt wealth content.Studies have shown that family education, school environment, and media contact are all potential factors that affect children's comparing mentality. The materialist orientation of the media promotes the improvement of individual materialism.Materialism is related to individual self-esteem and social tendency.Based on previous research and related theories, combined with the current status of Internet use by senior elementary school students at this stage,we use a combination of experimental and questionnaire research methods to explore the psychological impact of short video flaunt wealth content on children's comparing mentality by manipulating two experimental conditions. The mechanism of action is mainly to examine the intermediary role of self-esteem in the short video flaunt wealth content on children's comparing mentality and the role of parental mediation. We first started the short-term effect scenario, using 209 sixth-grade students with Internet experience as subjects,to manipulate the two experimental conditions of instant viewing of short videos with flaunt wealth content and short videos without showing flauntwealth content.Through questionnaire surveys, the subjects' self-esteem,comparing mentality and parental mediation were tested in units of class.SPSS 22.0 and Hayes(2013)macro program PROCESS(PROCESS is written by Andrew F.Hayes,http://www.afhayes.com)were used to analyze and process the recovered data.It was found that the exposure of short videos flaunt wealth content affects children's comparing mentality.Specifically, compared with children who watch short videos without flaunt wealth content, children's comparing mentality that watch short videos with flaunt wealth content tend to higher.Self-esteem plays an intermediary role between the exposure of short-term flaunt wealth content and the children's comparing mentality. The exposure of short-term flaunt wealth content reveals the tendency of children's comparing mentality by reducing the level of individual self-esteem.The direct effect of short video flaunt wealth content on children's comparing mentality and the intermediary role of self-esteem are regulated by parental mediation.Specifically, compared with children with high parental mediation levels, children with low parental mediation levels are more likely to be affected by the exposure of short videos flaunt wealth content. Finally,it clarifies the practical enlightenment of this study, reflects and summarizes the deficiencies of the study, and considers the direction and assumptions of further research.
