STEM is the abbreviation of science,technology,engineering and mathematics.Compared with traditional education,STEM education emphasizes more on the organic integration of these four fields,so as to cultivate compound STEM innovative talents.Applying STEM concept to middle school mathematics teaching,we design a framework of middle school mathematics teaching mode aiming at cultivating students' interdisciplinary,application-oriented,new-type thinking ability and practical ability,which is conducive to providing opportunities for front-line educators to understand,learn and master STEM education mode,and to providing theoretical support for educators to change traditional teaching mode.The purpose of this study is to analyze the research status of inquiry teaching and STEM education at home and abroad,to understand the shortcomings of existing research,to clarify the concept and theoretical basis of inquiry teaching under the concept of STEM,to extract the essence of mathematics teaching practice suitable for middle schools in China,and to design and practice the inquiry teaching mode of middle school mathematics oriented by developing the thinking of science and Engineering.This article is divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction.Combining with the background of the topic,it puts forward the research questions,expounds the research significance and research methods,and explains the innovation of the research,which lays the foundation for the development of this study.The second part introduces the related theories and summaries of STEM education and inquiry teaching,including the introduction of 5E inquiry teaching mode under this concept,and the understanding of three inquiry teaching strategies:discovery inquiry,reasoning inquiry and experimental inquiry,which lays a foundation for the construction of 5E inquiry teaching mode for STEM education.The third part establishes the feasibility of integrating stem elements into mathematics inquiry teaching by studying the mathematics curriculum standard of senior high school(2017 Edition),and introduces the theoretical basis of Mathematics Inquiry Teaching Based on stem concept.Then,with stem education as the background,combined with 5E inquiry teaching mode,three inquiry teaching strategies are integrated into the process,and a 5E inquiry teaching mode for stemeducation is constructed.The fourth part,according to the 5E inquiry teaching mode for stem education,designs a teaching case based on stem concept.In the fifth part,the author studies the teaching design based on stem concept,puts forward the purpose of the research,selects the research object,determines the research tools,explains the implementation process,carries out the teaching practice of mathematics inquiry teaching cases under stem concept,and collects the experimental data through questionnaire survey and interview.By analyzing the data,it is concluded that the mathematics inquiry teaching under the stem education concept is feasible and effective.At the same time,it is found that students' learning interest,innovation consciousness,innovation thinking and innovation ability have been improved after the teaching practice.The sixth part analyzes the shortcomings of this study,and puts forward the related prospects.
