In this paper, the covalent grafting method was used to modify multi-walled carbon nanotubes for improving its dispersity in the matrix of ABS matrix.Modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWNTs-g-SBS)were obtained by hydroxylation, amination and amidation reaction with maleic anhydride grafted SBS(MAH-g-SBS).Thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA)showed that the grafting rate of MAH-g-SBS was up to 39 wt%.Characterization and measurements such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM),and transmission electron microscope(TEM)were used to analyze the chemical composition and variation at all reaction stages.Finally,MWNTs-g-SBS/ABS composites were synthesized by blending modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes which was act as the enhancosome and raw ABS.Mechanical behavior tests showed that tensile strength and Young’s modulus increased. The tensile strength of MWNTs-g-SBS/ABS composites with 0.3 wt%MWNTs-g-SBS loadings was increased by maxima of 30.2%.The causes for the changes of mechanical behavior were analyzed by dynamic thermomechanical analysis(DMA).Resistivity of different percentage of modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes in ABS matrix was tested which indicated that the conductivity had a trend of increasing with modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes.
