With the development of social-economy and the increment of population, people's attention to the problem of air pollution has also increased day by day.Particulate matter has always been one of major air pollutants in China.Although the concentration of air particulate matter has decreased in the past two years as the prevention and control of air pollution has increased, the annual average concentrations of PM100 and PM2.5.5 have not reached the secondary standards in the Air Quality Standards.Air pollution is still in a severe situation.Taklimakan Desert which is located in South Xinjiang is the largest dust source in China.Hence, particulate matter is the most important air pollutant in South Xinjiang. This study simulated the concentrations and spatial-temporal distribution of PM100 and PM2.5.5 for wind erosion in South Xinjiang in 2016 based on the third-generation American air quality model Models-3/CMAQ,in order to analyze characteristics of pollution for wind erosion in South Xinjiang. The main research contents are as follows:?1?Models-3/CMAQ air quality model system is built based on Ubuntu Linux operating system.Models-3/CMAQ includes three parts:The Weather Research and Forecasting Model?WRF?,Sparse Matrix Operator Kernel Emission System?SMOKE?,and Community Modeling and Analysis System?CMAQ?,where CMAQ model is the core of the entire model system. Moreover, the parameters of the model were localized, and the spatial and temporal allocating factors of the emission inventory of particulate matter for wind erosion source in South xinjiang were established.?2?The actual PM100 and PM2.5.5 concentrations for wind erosion were calculated by combing the concentrations derived from 11 monitoring stations in South Xinjiang with the results of source analysis of particulate matter for wind erosion. The accuracy of simulation results were verified by comparing the actual concentrations and simulating results based on Models-3/CMAQ.The normalized mean bias and normalized mean error between simulation results and actual values at 10 monitoring stations were lower than 50%,expcet one station located in Hotan Prefecture. And the correlation coefficient R2 between simulation results and actual values at all monitoring stations were around 0.9.Verification results show that the simulation results based on Models-3/CMAQ were accurate. The changing trend was basically consistent with the actual values which means the model performed well.?3?In 2016,the annual average value of the PM100 concentration contributed from wind erosion source in South Xinjiang exceeded the secondary standard by 56%and the PM2.5concentration exceeded the secondary standard by 25%.From the perspective of spatial distribution,in 2016,the areas with severe wind erosion pollution in South Xinjiang were mainly distributed in Hotan Prefecture and Kashgar Prefecture. The wind erosion pollution in Aksu Prefecture and Bayinguoleng Mongolia Autonomous Prefecture was relatively low.Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture was least affected by soil wind erosion. From the perspective of temporal distribution,in spring?March to May?,the particular matter concentrations for wind erosion in the South Xinjiang were much higher than the other months.Due to the influence of terrain and meteorological conditions, obvious differences were observed in the spatial-temporal distribution of wind erosion pollution in South Xinjiang.
