To evaluate the safety of three domestic new-type antiscalants(including modified potycarboxytic acid antiscalant,acrylic acid antiscalant and malic acid antiscalant),and to provide data supporting for evaluation and analysis on hygienic safety of chemicals for seawater desalination,comet assay and flow cytometric in vitro micronucleus was selected to detect genotoxic effects of three antisealants on Chinese hamster ovary(CHO)cells according to the IC50 of CHO cells for three antiscalants calculated by real-time cell analysis(RTCA)system.The conclusions were as follows:(1)In comet assay,acrylic acid antiscalant showed posive results in dose groups of 2.401 mg/mL and 0.600 mg/mL;malic acid antiscalant showed posive results in dose groups of 1.347 mg/mL and 0.337 mg/mL;acrylic acid antiscalant showed posive results in dose group of 2.781 mg/mL and 0.695 mg/mL.Under the experiment condition of this study,three antiscalants showed genotoxic effects to CHO cells.(2)In flow cytometric in vitro micronucleus,the results of dose group of 1.347 mg/mL of malic acid antiscalant showed positive results compared with negative control in treatment without metabolic activation.The results of dose group of 1.347 mg/mL?0.674 mg/mL and 0.337 mg/mL of malic acid antiscalant showed positive results compared with negative control,,the results of dose group of 2.401 mg/mL of acrylic acid antiscalant showed positive results compared with negative control,and the results of dose group of 2.781 mg/mL of modified potycarboxytic acid antiscalant showed positive results compared with negative control in treatment with metabolic activation.Under the experiment condition of this study,three antiscalants showed genotoxic effects to CHO cells.(3)The potential toxic effects of antiscalants should be focused on when evaluating the safety of antiscalants,and the processing and purity of polymer should also be focused on when developing the relevant industry standard.
