| ESP(English for specific purposes)refers to English based on applied linguistics theory and related to a particular occupation,subject or purpose.It can also refer to English courses offered according to learners’ specific purposes and needs.In teaching,ESP mode attaches great importance to the cultivation of practical language skills,which can solve professional problems arising in future positions.In2014,the State promulgated the Plan for the Construction of Modern Vocational Teaching System(2014-2020).It clearly pointed out that "Vocational education should stand at the overall level of economic,social and educational development,and build a modern vocational education system with strategic vision,modern concept and international vision." Foreign languages play an important role in cultivating students’ international vision in Higher Vocational colleges.Although in recent years higher vocational colleges have made some achievements in ESP mode teaching in response to the call of national vocational education,and have also made some effective reforms,due to the existing objective conditions,ESP mode of English teaching in higher vocational colleges has not yet matured.This research will take Heze Medical college as the research object,take ESP teaching theory as the guidance,proceed from the aspects of teachers,students,textbooks,etc.,and use questionnaire survey and interviews between teachers and students to investigate the medical English teaching which is being carried out.It will investigate and analyze the basic situation of teachers and students,their understanding and attitude towards ESP,textbooks and teaching contents,teaching means and methods,assessment methods,etc.The results show that due to the lack of awareness of the importance of ESP teaching from schools,teachers and students,there are many problems in ESP teaching,such as teacher training,teaching staff,textbooks,curriculum orientation,teaching objectives,class arrangement,curriculum planning and curriculum setting,resulting in unsatisfactory teaching effect and inadequate meeting of students’ learning needs.aIn view of the above problems,this study attempts to put forward the need to strengthen the understanding of schools,teachers and students at all levels to promote ESP teaching as a whole.Schools should set up courses scientifically,select teaching materials rationally,strengthen the construction of teachers,improve ESP teacher training system,reform teachingmethods and means.Improve the assessment system and other solutions to better carry out ESP teaching for domestic higher vocational colleges. |
