With the science advance, economic globalization and multiculturalismdevelopment caused by widely migration, the research on cross-culturecommunication is urgently needed. Foreign-related tour guide is a cross-culturecommunication which needs language training on one hand, as well as training incross-culture knowledge and abilities on the other. Therefore, requirements forEnglish tour guides must have the high abilities in cross-cultural communicativecompetence. Many students revealed many problems in tourist receptions, thoughthey are graduated form colleges and universities majoring in English tourism. Someproblems even led to the huge economy losses and adverse international effects. All ofthese have exposed the college English tourism teaching deficiencies in training,especially in cross-culture communicative competence. This essay starts with contentsand components of the cross-culture and implication analysis in English tourismteaching. On the basis of professional and comprehensive orient in college Englishteaching, this essay tries to seek an effective way for training students abilities fromthe professional viewpoints. The effectiveness can be greatly achieved by practicewith theory. In order to gain the first hand information to support this research, theauthor conducts a survey which related to English tourism students’ cross-culturecommunicative abilities. Through SPSS processing, as well as qualitative andquantitative analysis, the author found that the present students majoring in Englishtourism had lower levels and unbalanced communicative abilities, which is far awayfrom a qualified English tour guide. Meanwhile, the results from the questionnaireshowed that recent college English teaching cannot meet the needs of students. Apartfrom the professional point of view, the English-speaking tour guides withcross-cultural communicative competence, which is not only consistent with theUniversity’s educational goal and the basic principles of language teaching, but alsowith the students’ characteristics and the current study situation.
