| The Grove of the Reclining Buddha(Wofoyuan)is located in Wofo Village,Bamiao Settlement,Tongxian Town,the northern part of Anyue County.It is located in the northernmost part of the county town and adjacent to Suining City.Its most striking relic is the Grove of the Reclining Buddha,which was recognized by archaeologists and related scholars during the Kaiyuan period(713-741)of the Tang Dynasty.In addition,there are 69 sutra caves in the site.Only 15 contain sutras today,and there are 19 types of records,and the total number of characters has been reported more than 300,000.It is the largest quantity of sutra texts engraved in a single rock-cut temple in southern China.Cave 46 is the largest sutra cave in the Grove of the Reclining Buddha.The chronological issue are the first to be solved.Combining the research results of "Buddhist Stone Sutras in China Buddhism Sichuan Province Volumes"(four volumes)and previous generations of scholars,this article will base on investigation data attained from fieldwork,and research status and analyze the calligraphy style of stone carving Buddhist sutras in the Grove of the Reclining Buddha.The author analyzes its chronology from the perspective of calligraphy style,and can further comprehensively study the site.First of all,this article will proceed from the style of characters in Cave 46.With the walls as the unit,each Buddhist sutra will focus on the pointillism,structure,and composition of the text to determine the general period;Then,we will compare the style of Cave 59 with the style of Cave No.46 to determine the sequence of its engraving and then compare it with Dunhuang Scripture Calligraphy in order to find out the common ground between the two,judging from the point of view of calligraphy the attribution of its time. |
