On The Middle-class Writing By Cheng Naishan

Cheng Naishan made her mark in Chinese contemporary literary arena scene due to her novel "The Blue House" which published in 1983.She was the first writer to focus on and write about the middle class after the cultural revolution.Cheng Naishan's novels in the 1980s exhibited the living actuality of middle class's generations in the new period of reform and opening,and the beginning of the 1990s to her death,she has been devoted to write documentary prose about the old Shanghai middle class.The old Shanghai financial family's background has added to the uniqueness of her the Shanghai middle class writing.This paper,the author studies the literary creation of Cheng Naishan form the perspective of middle class writing,analyzes the textual representation of Cheng Naishan's literary creation,and makes an objective analysis of literary value and the limitations of the Cheng Naishan's middle class writing.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter,defines the connotation and concept of "middle class".The middle class refers to those who earn their living by knowledge and skills have a creditable and steady job,have a certain degree of control over the work object,have more than secondary education,with high grade and culture,with a above-average consumption,have a moderate social status.Next,the author analyze the characteristics of middle class culture in Cheng Naishan's literary creation:middle class attaches great importance to the education,attach importance to individual cultural and artistic accomplishment.The second chapter discusses the image of middle class presented in Cheng Naishan's works,because of the difference the creation style and the creative mentality between the two sub-periods,there are dividing two parts to discussion.In the first section discusses the middle class character in the new period of Cheng Naishan 's early novels,Cheng Naishan enthusiastic praise the people who diligent work,free-standing self-improvement,criticizing the hypocritical indifference selfish negative figures.The second section discusses the image of old Shanghai middle class presented by Cheng Naishan's post-documentary writing,and discusses the two aspects of female image and male image respectively.Old Shanghai middle class female image can be divided into four groups:celebrities lady,the women of demimonde,the women of residence,the women of lane.They have different characteristics,but they all have cultural accomplishment and elegant temperament.Old Shanghai middle class male image can be divided into two groups:the social elite?the middle and senior staff.They love their families,value culture education,pay attention to the quality of life.Chapter three analyzes Cheng Naishan's picture of middle class life.Middle class's living space,diet and dress,entertainment and consumption reflect their recognition of the middle class culture.The fourth chapter analyzes the literary value of the Cheng Naishan's middle class writing.The middle class group is the unique writing theme of Cheng Naishan's literary creation,which has expanded the field of the expression of the Shanghai school literature.Her writing presents a rich taste of Shanghai school and is a typical example of female writing.Chapter five interprets the limitations of of the Cheng Naishan's middle class writing.Cheng Naishan's middle-class writing has some issues,self-duplication,lack of rational scrutiny,and superiority complex.
