This paper, based on Suzhou dialect and Changzhou dialect, analyzes and studies the properties and variation of the obstruent in North Wu dialect from the perspective of acoustic phonetics. The paper is divided into six chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction, which mainly explains the geographical scope of North Wu dialect, the general situation of the investigation points and the related concepts of the obstruent. At the same time,it summarizes the acoustic research and experimental results of the obstruent by the predecessors, and finally puts forward the purpose and significance of this paper.Chapter 2 has two parts. The first part introduces the characteristics and algorithms of wavelet transform, and the application of wavelet in phonetic research. The second part lists the specific experimental scheme. The main part of this paper is from Chapter 3 to Chapter 5.Acoustic experiments of stops, affricates and fricatives are carried out separately, which extract and analyze parameters, such as duration, transitional cues.locus equation, spectral energy and wavelet coefficients. The main experimental results are as follows:1)In terms of the duration, fricatives are much longer than affricates and stops. The obstruents of different places and manners of articulation have differences in the duration, while the majority of them are statistically significant.2)In terms of transitional cues and locus equation, the relationship between stops and the following vowels is closer, and the coarticulation of stops is more effective. But the frequency of affricates is generally greater.3)In terms of spectrum, stops and fricatives of different places of articulation have energy differences in each frequency interval, while voiced stops and voiced fricatives have little spectrum difference with the corresponding voiceless consonants. There are large spectrum differences between affricates’ closure part and the corresponding stops, and between the friction part and the corresponding fricatives, but the energy trends of closure and friction part are consistent.4)In terms of variability, when the obstruents are followed by different vowels, the intensity of variability is random.Overall, stops have higher stability, while fricatives have stronger variability.Chapter 6 is the summary, which mainly lists the experimental results of the previous chapters and puts forward the shortcomings of this paper.
