Alfred Hitchcock is a renowned master of suspense on the world’s film scene.He has a distinct creative personality and unique artistic style,and he has created his film style.Hitchcock’s films left behind a myriad of classic spatial phenomena.He was also considered to be an undisputed master of image design.The space art represented in his films is an important part of Hitchcock’s great artistic charm.However,in the past,the study of Hitchcock’s film art focused on the suspense mechanism,narrative techniques,psychoanalysis phenomena and theories in the films of Hitchcock movies.Movie space,an important element of expression,is often simply attributed to the secondary status of narrative background and auxiliary suspense manufacture.In fact,the presentation and change trajectory of the space concept in Hitchcock’s film is more helpful to understand the greatness of Hitchcock’s film art.The development of Hitchcock’s film space concept has opened up a new world of film art.This paper takes the space in Hitchcock’s film as the object of study and deeply analyzes the formation,manifestation and development of Hitchcock’s film space presentation.From the perspective of the film’s spatial phenomenon,it is summarized that there are two different levels of Hitchcock’s film space.His concept of film space has experienced a deepening from the "influence of traditional film theory" to "the influence of psychoanalysis".There are many spatial phenomena in Hitchcock’s films.The presentation and changes of these space phenomena reveal the deepening of the development of Hitchcock’s film space concept.Hitchcock inherited and carried forward the use of traditional film theory for the presentation of film space,and was influenced by psychoanalysis.He keenly introduced the psychoanalytic method into the space creation of the film and explored more space in the film.The role of symbolism,thus projecting the abstract human psychological world as a concrete spatial phenomenon in the film,opens up the possibility of artistic expression in the film space,and builds a bridge between traditional film theory and modern film theory.In short,the essence of Hitchcock’s film space concept lies in exploring the spiritual world of film art,and revealing the ridiculousness of human life and the fragility of human nature through the presentation of film space.
