On The Dress Writing In Wang Anyi's Novels

Since 1970 s,Wang Anyi has always been active obviously in the Chinese contemporary literature.Fresh and elegant tone is always one of her adapt ways to show the ordinary but warm world to readers through perceiving human feelings,concerning the ordinary ’ s living state and destiny.And those common or extravagant descriptions of clothing in her works also make a huge contribution to the gloomy literary world.As a kind of practical object,clothing might have no distinctive meanings and thoughts in itself.However,it would be an essential tool to incarnate spiritual desires,living conditions of human beings when the clothing descriptions become an important part in literature.To a considerable extent,the writers’ focuses on clothing almost equal to their concerns for people’s living conditions which are in a specific time and space.In Wang Anyi’s novels,she integrates a mass of her own personal experience and unique aesthetic visions into her descriptions of clothing,which not only expand the artistic space of such description,but also greatly deepen the cultural implication and ideological connotation of her novels.A door to a new world of daily life writing begins.There are three parts in this dissertation: Introduction,Main body and Conclusion.The introduction part mainly includes the literature review of Wang Anyi’s novels,as well as the research significance and research methodologies of this thesis.The first chapter analyzes the original reasons of Wang Anyi’s clothing writing from flowing three aspects:the accumulation of her early life experience,the enlighten of aesthetics and the influence of realistic writing styles.The second chapter mainly discusses the artistic features of the clothing writing in Wang Anyi’s novels.Firstly,the writing of clothing on the individual characterization is mainly reflected from three aspects:showing the psychological,highlighting characters and suggesting the fate.Secondly,the author also takes advantages of clothing conflicts writing to make her stories more reasonable.Moreover,the ingenious use of dressing and color imagery make her writing more profound and full of charm,which increase the intrinsic and readable nature of her novels definitely as well.The third chapter analyzes the ideological connotation of Wang Anyi’s clothing writing deeply.The exquisite clothing of the middle class in Old Shanghai reflects their delicate attitudes and elegant spirits to the lives vividly.The author also uses this phenomenon to resist the materialism and superficiality brought about by clothing;the eye-catching clothing of women in the post-new era is a kind of social means to make a living.And,the author shows her concerns on the destinies of these females behind such prosperous;the shifting attitudes from irony to praise towards the dressing of rural youth reflect the author’s keen observation and active exploration to the relationship between urban and rural areas.The conclusion part briefly summarizes the above and emphasizes the significance and values of Wang Anyi’s clothing writing over again.
