The five-year high vocational students are in the adolescent self-identity formation stage,and individuals who are not in good self-identity formation stage have a very low meaning of life.Therefore,the study explored the statuses of the five-year high vocational students' meaning of life and self-identity,as well as the relationship between the two,and attempted to intervene in the meaning of life of high vocational students.The High Vocational Students' Meaning of Life Scale and Self-identity Scale were used to survey data for 700 high vocational students in Nanjing Engineering High Vocational School.The results showed that:(1)Vocational Students' meaning of life scores were higher than the ideal intermediate value of 3.However,the goal living dimension had the lowest score(M=3.26).The meaning of life and its dimensions were significantly different in gender,grade,major,student cadre,source and the self-identity variables.(2)In the distribution of the vocational students'self-identity,64.2%students were in identity diffusion,that was not forming identity.The vocational students' self-identity dimensions scores were lower the standard value 19.The self-identity dimensions were significantly different in gender,grade,major,student cadre and source variables.(3)In the test of meaning of life's relationship with self-identity,there were significant correlations between meaning of life and its dimensions and self-identity dimensions,except the crisis of the past life with the goal life.(4)In the regression analysis test of meaning of life and self-identity,the present commitment and future readiness of commitment of self-identity had a certain prediction on meaning of life.Based on the analysis of the meaning of life status on high vocational students,the 60 high vocational students of low meaning of life were selected by the High Vocational Students' Meaning of Life Scale,and the 60 students were divided into intervention group(30students)and control group(30students).The intervention group carried out the meaning of life group counseling to improve their meaning of life.The results showed that:(1)In the intervention group,students' post-test scores of the meaning of life and its dimensions were significantly higher than that of the pre-test.(2)In the control group,there were no significant differences between the post-test scores and the pre-test scores.(3)The score differences between the post-test and pre-test of the meaning of life of the students in the intervention group significantly higher than the students in the control group.There were the conclusions:(1)The meaning of life of the five-year high vocational students was at a moderate level,but most of the vocational students did not form a good self-identity.The meaning of life and self-identity were influenced by gender,student cadre,grade,major and source.(2)In the self-identity formation process,regardless of the crisis of the past life,the degrees of self-investment in present and future aspirations may have an important influence on the high vocational students' meaning of life.(3)Using targeted group psychological counseling activities may effectively improve the five-year vocational students' low meaning of life.
