Mencius's "kingdom" Development Ethics Thought Research

Mencius is the representation of Confucianism after Confucius.His standpoint in Disposition and Sage are under widely research.In academical field,the Disposition of Mencius is inherited by Neo-Confucianism and Modern New Confucianism who makes insistent development of Confucianism.But under this kind of situation,thoughts of Mencius are limited to the field of Disposition,lacking the view of Kingcraft.The point of Kingcraft clearly shows the view on administering and developing of Mencius,which has vital meaning for us to draw lessons from.With this kind of perspective,the Sage and Kingcraft thoughts are trying to be illustrated.Through this process,we should get some experiences of our practice.Mencius’ theory system about the development of a country and society is aiming at Kingcraft Politics.Mencius puts opposition to Hegemonic Politics and believes that Jen Policy should be taken in administrating of a country.At the same time,the governor should respect the ones that are virtuous and make the ones that have eminent capabilities in working.About the way to achieve Kingcraft Politics,there are three means:first and foremost,he believes that the ruler is of the least importance and takes the people as the most vital factor.Mencius found out series of politics to love people,by making these politics,the assurance of living a better life for people are taken.Second,Mencius thought the virtuous and able should be esteemed and profit should be valued lower than righteousness.This kind of demand is for rulers.For kings,they should promote their virtue and choose the ones that are virtuous and able.For rulers,the management should obey the principle of Jen and righteousness.Righteousness is more significant than profit.And the profits should be shared by the common people.Last,from a long-term perspective,people should get along with nature.Sympathizing the people and loving all living things are basic rules to protect the environment and to guarantee the sustainable development of society.From the prospect of Mencius,only Jen and righteousness are put into effect in the process of country management,ruling by ethical ways,can a country would achieve sustainable and healthy development.With the background of our practical process,the developing ethics of Mencius are worthy to absorb.Until now,the contradiction in our society is emerging.Solutions to conflicts between the common people and rulers,the problem of selection of officials,the doubts about assessment criteria and the methods to deal with the relationship between nature and human society,could be found in Mencius’s "true kingship"theory.We should study the classic of Mencius further and face the reality,trying to find out new ways to understand classic thoughts,to achieve the transformation of classics and to seek the wisdom of the ancients,making the past serve the present.
