Research On Wang Mingsheng's "Shangshuhou Case"

Wang Mingsheng’s Shangshu Houan is an important work on Shangshu in Qing Dynasty.Its academic value can be examined in the context of the study of Shangshu in the early Qing Dynasty.Mr.Liu Qili pointed out in the History of Shangshu Studies that Shangshu Houan was in the prosperous period of textual research in the Qing Dynasty,while the development of Shangshu studies in the Qing Dynasty was roughly divided into four stages:First,the legacy of Song studies in the early Qing Dynasty followed Cai Chuan;Second,to complete the debate and overthrow the pseudo-ancient prose;Three,infatuated with pseudo ancient prose futile resistance;Fourth,scholars in the Qing Dynasty urged the collation and self-awareness of the study of Shangshu.Shangshu Houan was written after Yan Ruoqu and Hui Dong finalized the book.Therefore,its academic foundation is to agree that the Guwen Shangshu presented by Mei Zhi in the Eastern Jin Dynasty is a fake.The restoration work on the Han Dynasty’s Shangshu that was lost is also the value of Shangshu Houan.The spread of Shangshu is numerous and complicated.Especially since the Eastern Jin Dynasty,Kong Chuan’s Guwen Shangshu came into being and has been a high official school from the Wei and Jin Dynasties to the early Qing Dynasty.Although some scholars have questioned it since the Song Dynasty,they have failed to draw a definite conclusion on falsification,and its status is still unshakable.It was not until the Qing Dynasty that Yan Ruoqu came to a final conclusion about the fake Book.Based on Yan Ruoqu’s point of view,Wu Pai scholars such as Wang Mingsheng further explored the original appearance of Shangshu in the Han Dynasty.Shangshu Houan is one of his comments on Shangshu.Shangshu is seriously scattered and lost in the process of circulation,and most of the works of the Han people interpreting Shangshu do not exist.Therefore,in order to see the old theories of Ma Rong,Zheng Xuan,Wang Su and others on Shangshu,it is necessary to compile and lose them from the old materials.Therefore,Wang Mingsheng extensively compiles ail kinds of sub-books and old annotations of Shangshu since the Han and Tang Dynasties,cross-checks and interprets the old texts of Shangshu by the Han Confucianism,identifies and classifies them under each sentence,and assembles a collection of annotations of Shangshu,followed by additional case studies and textual research.The book lasted 35 years and was the painstaking work of Wang Mingsheng’s whole life.It was also an important work of Wu Pai scholars of Qianjia School on the study of Shangshu,providing abundant Han Dynasty materials for later studies.The text of this article is divided into three chapters.The introduction and the first chapter take the rise of Qianjia School in Qing Dynasty as the background of the times and analyze the academic background of Wang Mingsheng.This article introduces Wang Mingsheng’s life,friends and writing achievements under the background of the times.The second chapter mainly interprets the version,style and content of Shangshu Houan,and discusses it from the following aspects:writing,interpretation and discrimination.The third chapter analyzes the value and influence of Shangshu Houan,affirms its value and points out its shortcomings,thus trying to give it a more objective historical position.
