A Report On The Practice Of Chinese-English Translation Of The Tourism Book "Research On The Development Of Xiangyang Cultural Tourism" (Chapter 9)

The source text of this translation practice report is taken from Chapter 9 of the tourism book The Research of Xiangyang Cultural Tourism Development.The title of the chosen chapter is The Resources Development of the “ one River and Two Mountains” Cultural Tourism Resources in Urban Xiangyang.In this chapter,the writer introduces the river and mountain resources(Han River,Xian Mountain,and Lumen Mountain)in Xiangyang,points out the present problem of the cultural tourism,and then puts up some reasonable suggestions for the further development.Based on the text translation,this report attempts to advocate the cultural tourism of Xiangyang,promote cultural exchange between China and foreign countries,and also explore the translation skills and methods of tourism texts.Under the guidance of Skopos theory and functional equivalence theory,this translation practice is aimed at correctly delivering the textual information and representing the expression style of the source text.In this translation practice,translation problems,such as cultural default,content repetition,and sentence pattern adjustment,resulted from cultural differences and differences of language expression habit,are addressed through translation methods,including free translation,literal translation,omission,annotation,and so on according to the practical situations and relevant materials.In Chapter 4,case study is carried out,revolving around the translation of place names,poetic lines,cultural phrases,and four-character structures in Chinese into English.The translation process of this text is analyzed,the solutions to similar problems in tourism translation are summed up.
