As the term “taste” was originally a concept in the field of poetics in the Ming Dynasty,we have extended it here to the field of literature and art—including the category of painting and calligraphy aesthetics, thus becoming a theoretical expression of aesthetic interest.Western aesthetician Hume’s discussion of aesthetic taste represents a taste theory. This article uses Hume’s taste theory as a reference and combines the relevant theories of painting and calligraphy to explore the general aesthetic requirements and unique connotations of the taste of calligraphy and painting,in order to present the construction of a theoretical system. This can be seen from the following aspects.First, the value orientation of aesthetic taste lies in "transcendence",which includes two aspects of the transcendence of the realm of life of the subject and the transcendence of artistic form;the philosophical ideas of Lao Zi,Zhuang Zi,and Confucius(including Yi Zhuan)in the pre-Qin period were the origin of the taste theory of calligraphy and painting,in which the categories of "natural","bland","plain",and "elegant" are the signs of the taste theory of calligraphy and painting;Second, the theory of taste of calligraphy and painting in later generations not only exerted itself on the basis of the practice of calligraphy and painting and the above-mentioned pre-Qin taste theory but also developed a unique "I-p’in" view, summarizing the various characteristics of the aesthetic taste represented by "I" in the form of expression.Third, this article further elaborates the "static","solitary",and "cold" taste characteristics and their reflection in paintings. These characteristics exude an ultra-dark "feeling of distance",which is the value of "transcendence" implementation and demonstration of the orientation in the form of calligraphy and painting.Fourth, this article also takes a case study of the calligraphy and painting works of Hongren,Badashanren and Jinnong as examples to reveal the rich aesthetic connotation and perceptual characteristics of calligraphy and painting taste.
