| The National English Curriculum Standards of Senior High School stresses the development of students’ key compentencies of English subject,thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning ability are listed as key elements of English quality,which has also become one of the important goals of English reading teaching in high schools.Therefore,reading teaching plays an important role in cultivating students’ thinking quality.However,the current reading teaching focuses more on the mastery of language knowledge and the training of language skills,but the cultivation of students’ thinking qualities such as analysis,synthesis,evaluation and reasoning is weak.Then,how to cultivate students’ thinking quality in English reading teaching activities has become an urgent problem in high school English reading teaching.Based on Bloom’s cognitive target system and Intelligence Theory Focusing on Thinking Structure,this study uses classroom observations,teacher interviews to study the English reading teaching activities of fifteen English teachers in three key ages in a provincial key high school.So this study plans to answer these questions:(1)How is the development of the students’ three dimensions of thinking quality about logical quality,critical quality and innovative quality in English reading teaching?(2)What kind of teacher beliefs do teachers of different ages have in cultivating students’ thinking qualities?there are the main findings of this study after collecting and analyzing all the data:(1)By observing and analyzing the classroom teaching activities of 15 high school English teachers,the study founds that teachers were not optimistic about the cultivation of students’ thinking quality,especially in cultivating innovative thinking.(2)For teachers of three teaching ages,mature English teachers have a certain understanding of the quality of thinking.They can focus on the development needs of students and cultivate students’ thinking through various related reading activities.However,novice English teachers don’t understand the specific content of thinking quality.They believe that the teaching goals should be combined with the college entrance examination syllabus and pay more attention to students’ language knowledge in the reading process.Based on the research,the author believes that the cultivation of students’ thinking quality in English reading teaching activities is beneficial to the improvement of students’ thinking quality,there are still many challenges and deficiencies that require our continuous discovery and exploration. |
