Vocabulary is one of the three major elements of language meanwhile is the basic unit of language study.Vocabulary teaching is an important part of English teaching,which is always focused on by researchers.However,most teachers who are in the primary school in China still adopt the traditional vocabulary teaching methods,resulting in boring and inefficient English vocabulary learning for pupils.The English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(Ministry of Education,2011)requires educators to pay attention to students' individual differences and fully respect students' dominant position.The perceptual learning style is one of the significant factors of students' individual learning differences.Based on the requirements of the new curriculum standard,the perceptual learning style theory is applied to the English vocabulary teaching of primary school by the author aiming to study its effectiveness and feasibility.This study takes 110 students from a primary school of Yanzhou district,Jining city as subjects.Under the guidance of perceptual learning style theory,English vocabulary teaching theory and previous researches,the author firstly distributes The Learning Channel Preference Checklist questionnaire made by Lynn O 'Brien's to the subjects in order to classify their perceptual learning styles.In terms of the survey results,the author next carries out an English vocabulary teaching class,short-term vocabulary memory test and long-term vocabulary memory tests for 110 subjects to verify whether vocabulary teaching methods under the guidance of perceptual learning style theory have different effects on vocabulary memory and application of subjects with different perceptual learning styles.The results show that there is the largest number of subjects who are the visual perceptual learning style,while the learners who are the auditory and haptic perceptual learning styles are fewer among subjects.English vocabulary teaching methods based on perceptual learning style theory have no-effect on the short-term vocabulary memory and application,meanwhile have positive effect on the long-term vocabulary memory and application of subjects who are with different perceptual learning styles.English vocabulary teaching guided by perceptual learning style theory is helpful to stimulate the learning enthusiasm of pupils and promote their English vocabulary learning.
