As a representative of the romantic opera,Gaetano Donizetti(1797-1848)has been involved in many musical genres throughout his life,up to about 75 opera works alone. Its unique music writing style and meticulous portrayal of characters have made widely circulated immortal masterpiece one after another.Donizetti’s pinnacle work of his opera career,"Lucia di Rummermoore" is not only a representative of the Italian Bel Canto opera, but also a historical classic with a glorious status in the world’s opera works, which tells a love tragedy about Lucia,a girl who could not be with her true love because of their family’s political issues. The "Mad Scene" in the play is extremely dramatic, and it is the conflicting climax of the entire work.Starting from the technical level of soprano singing is already enough to make people stop trying. The various skills and range are undoubtedly a great challenge for performers, coupled with the extremely complicated mental activity of the heroine Lucia,it is even more difficult for this drama. All of these elements reflects the artistic value and aesthetics of Donizetti’s works in a true sense. This thesis will focus on Lucia’s act in the "Mad Scene".Through the analysis of the storyline and music,we will have a deeper understanding of the content and value of Donizetti’s work. The second chapter explains the characteristic way of performance by the author herself. As a famous saying goes,"There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people’s eyes",different performers also bring different colors to the work. Not only to perform the original work reasonably, but if the charm of the work itself can be further fermented by the performer.I believe it is the direction pursued by an excellent opera artist.
