Abstract/Summary:
This thesis presents a detailed hydrogeochemical study of groundwater from the Baldwin Park Operable Unit in the San Gabriel Valley. Trace element geochemical data were acquired for waters collected from several multi-port wells along a NE-SW transect parallel to the dominant direction of groundwater flow. Correlation analysis reveals several strong trends between trace elements, including positive correlations between Ba, Sr, and Mg, Fe and Ti, Ba and Eu, Sr and U, and others. This trace element study also shows that groundwater quality is non-uniform across the study area. The distribution of trace element concentrations from three depth zones (shallow, intermediate, and deep) within the aquifer differ, possibly indicate variable degrees of water-rock interaction and/or changes in pH or oxidation state.
