Spectroscopic properties were measured and used to assess the potential of uranyl glass as an optical thermometer. The fluorescence decay rate and fluorescence spectrum were determined as a function of temperature of the uranyl glass sample with temperature ranging from 295 K to 500 K. Their variations with temperature provide the following temperature scales: (1) T = 0.02985k + 195.8 where T is temperature and k is fluorescence decay rate. (2) T = 461 -- 4.8I530nm where I530nm is the intensity of fluorescence at 530 nm. (3) T = 453 -- 0.198IT where IT is the total fluorescence intensity.;A simple measurement of the fluorescence decay rate, intensity of fluorescence at 530 nm or total fluorescence intensity of uranyl glass probe provides the temperature of the probe.
