Abstract/Summary:
To protect the environment, the refining industry is required to produce cleaner automotive fuels with ultra-low sulfur levels. The coexistence of nitrogen compounds inhibited hydrodesulfurization (HDS). Removal of nitrogen compounds by adsorption prior to HDS will help refineries to generate ultra-low sulfur diesel using the existing hydrotreating process.;ZrO2-TiO2 supported transition metal phosphide adsorbents were invented previously. This study will focus on the screening of these phosphides. Among them, WP/ZrO2-TiO2 shows the highest denitrogenation capacity. The properties and denitrogenation performance of WP/ZrO2-TiO2 were investigated systematically. Regeneration of spent WP/ZrO2-TiO2 was successfully completed. To simply the preparation procedure, a new material phosphate modified TiO 2 (P-TiO2) was also introduced. Effect of phosphate on the texture and denitrogenation capacity of TiO2 was investigated. The denitrogenation capacity of P-TiO2 with the optimal molar ratio of P to Ti (1/8) can reach as much as ten times higher than pure TiO 2. Both WP/ZrO2-TiO2 and P-TiO2 show very high adsorptive selectivity for nitrogen compounds.
