Abstract/Summary:
A structurally diverse library of novel aminosugars was designed and synthesized using a divergent synthetic strategy. This library of novel aminosugars was then used to create a new class of aminoglycoside antibiotics called pyranmycins. These pyranmycins were then assayed for antibacterial properties against E. coli bacteria and the results of the assay were used in structure-activity relationship studies of the pyranmycins. These structure-activity relationship studies can provide valuable information useful for the synthesis of antibiotics with increased antibacterial activity.
