The Rocky Horror Picture Show is much more than just a cult film. It is a study on human behavior, the performative aspects of gender, and the complex question of human sexuality. This thesis explores the way the characters in Rocky Horror subscribe to and subvert gender roles and perform their gender, with a specific focus on the issue of masculinity. Chapter Two discusses the role of the audience/cult following of Rocky Horror, and the complex relationship between the spectator and the film.
