The electron electric dipole moment (EDM) is investigated as a manifestation of CP violation in the lepton sector. It is shown that massive Majorana neutrinos can induce an electron EDM at the two-loop level. After developing the necessary background formalism, a detailed calculation is presented. Using the method of asymptotic expansions, analytic expressions are obtained for the electron EDM as a function of arbitrary masses of the Majorana neutrinos. The results indicate that the electron EDM will be sufficiently small, for plausible values of neutrino masses, so as to be experimentally unobservable in the foreseeable future. |
