| Education of health care providers is crucial for effective translation of genomic information into health care practice. The project aims to facilitate the preparation of primary care providers in Estonia for implementing genomic information into health care. In collaboration with the Estonian Genome Center of the University of Tartu, 130 providers were surveyed to determine their knowledge in genetics and their expectations regarding the use of genomic information. Three major themes emerged: eagerness to apply genomic information into practice, disparity between enthusiasm for using genomic information and readiness to do so, and willingness to improve their knowledge in genetics. The project is anticipated to be a first stage of an ongoing, collaborative process with the Estonian Genome Center, and the information received is to be used as a starting point for the development of educational resources for primary care providers in Estonia. |
