nterleukin-8 (IL-8) is a chemotactic cytokine, or chemokine, that plays a key role in the accumulation and activation of neutrophils at inflammatory sites in the tissues. Two unique but homologous high affinity receptors for IL-8 have been cloned--IL-8RA and IL-8RB. Both receptors are abundantly expressed on neutrophils and to a lesser extent on myelomonocytic cell lines (HL-60, U937, THP-1) and T lymphocytes. IL-8RA binds IL-8 exclusively while IL-8RB binds multiple chemokines including IL-8, MGSA/gro, NAP-2, and ENA-78.
