| Three choreographic works, Analyzing Niagara, Wintering, and 5 Reasons to Move, were performances in the Martha B. Knoebel Dance Theater at California State University, Long Beach, in October/November 1999 and February 2000. These works were created through experimentation with diverse processes: one relating to narrative structure; one relating to a series of expressionistic improvisations; and one relating to the relationship between musical structures of a sound score and dance structure.;The inspiration for, development of, and strengths and weaknesses of each work is individually documented and subsequently compared to the others. Philosophies of other contemporary choreographers are compared to concepts used in these works in order to place the works in a contemporary context. |
