| A twelve month study was conducted on Big Sandy, McKim, and Curry creeks in the Sabine National Forest monitoring for possible oil contamination. Twenty-six physicochemical parameters were analyzed. Parameters that would indicate oil contamination (B.O.D., C.O.D., conductivity, chloride, sulfate, and crude oil) were well below EPA and TNRCC recommended standards in Big Sandy and McKim creeks, and were significantly lower than the reference stream, Curry. Big Sandy and McKim displayed excellent water quality during the entire year. The reference stream, Curry, displayed good water quality, although the stream flow became intermittent during the summer. |
