The original 1772 publication of this score was used as the basis for the modern performance edition for two pianos. Antiquated notation was modernized according to the editorial procedures of the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Edition. The individual instrumental parts were initially arranged into a full score format, from which a reduction for second piano was made of the string and wind parts. The arrangement for two pianos was then MIDI-formatted into a computer by means of the Deluxe Music Construction Set 2.5 software program.;Since the purpose of this study was to provide a modern performance edition which might be useable by pre-college-level students, it was necessary to discuss the extensive use of ornaments throughout the concerto. Written-out realizations of representative ornaments are provided, as well as suggested alternative means of executing certain ornaments.;The edition for two pianos contains no editorial markings such as slurs, phrase indications, or fingerings. It retains the original figured bass of the solo harpsichord part and includes a description of editorial considerations used in the preparation of this edition. Recommendations for further study include the preparation of a two-piano edition of this concerto with suggested fingerings and two-piano editions of the other five "Hamburg" Concertos appropriate for students of pre-college level. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Edition, Carl philipp emanuel, Concerto | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
