Magnetic exploring is one of the most conventional geophysical prospecting methods,It is efficient, practical, economical and convenient. It is playing an irreplaceable role in mine exploration, especially for magnetic minerals. In this study,we applied the magnetic exploring method to an area located?24 km southwest of Xinyu City,Jiangxi Province, where there have been 4 large iron mines distribute in surrounding regions.Based on high-resolution magnetic prospecting in the study area,we defined the prospecting targets, and determined the distribution of peripheral iron resources.First,we made field data acquisition with high precision magnetic survey. Then we analyzed the data by compiling various parameter graphs on the magnetic abnormalities, which provides new constraints for future geological studies in the area.We divided the area into 14 abnormal magnetic areas based on the characteristics of the magnetic field,9 magnetic abnormalities can be classied as type-A abnormal,4 magnetic abnormalities can be classied as type-B abnormal and 1 can be classied as type-C abnormal.Inversion of magnetic anomaly data of the cross section is used to establish four geological models.Combined with a series of magnetic anomaly maps, magnetic anomaly features, the inversion profile and the geological materials,we defined three prospecting targets by combining the geological data. The magnetic anomaly in the target area is intense, favorable metallogenetic geologic environments and good prospecting potential. The use of magnetic method for prospecting in the existing iron mining area is successful in this study. It provides both theoretical and practical references on magnetic prospecting in other similar areas in the future.
