The ionospheric model refers to a mathematical description of the ionospheric electron vertical profile,which is discovered or summarized in long-term observation or research.The ionospheric model is the important basis for calculation of the radio wave propagation characteristics in ionosphere.However,with the increase of computational complexity,the existing models are facing more challenges.Starting from the ray propagation path in the ionosphere,this paper focuses on the research of modeling the ionospheric electron vertical profile.Firstly,the characteristic of the electron concentration distribution in the ionosphere is studied.And the Quasi-Gaussian is introduced by discovering the mappings between the parameters in the gaussian function and the key parameters of the ionosphere.Then the ionograms and incoherent scattering radar data were obtained.The data were filtered and used to verify the accuracy of the Quasi-gaussian model.In addition,the QP model and the exponential model in the other theoretical models,as well as the NeQuick2 model and the IRI model in the empirical model are appended to this verification to compare the performance of the models.The verification results show that the RMSE of the Quasi-Gaussian model is 50%-60%lower than that of the QP model and the exponential model.Even in some areas,the RMSE of the Quasi-Gaussian model is reduced by 2%-6%compared to the IRI model and the NeQuick2 model.Based on the above contents,the multi-layer Quasi-Gaussian model is established and preliminarily verified in this paper.The multi-layer Quasi-Gaussian model ensures the continuity of electron density and its gradients without sacrificing accuracy,which is shown by the verification result.Moreover,the multi-layer Quasi-Gaussian model is combined with ray tracing technology to evaluate the engineering application effect of the model.The specific schemes for accelerating engineering calculation are given for specific application scenarios.
