Based on the latest literature and data, combined with the regional geological evolution characteristics of the Middle East and North Africa, this thesis discusses the characteristics of the Silurian petroleum system in detail, and introduces the concept of the shale oil system according to the characteristics of the Silurian source rock, which is rich in organic matter and widely developed. The purpose of this thesis is to establish a systematic framework to analyze the source rock geochemical characteristics, sedimentary and distribution patterns, and then determine the shale oil accumulation prospective zones.According to the characteristics of available data and the investigation of shale oil resources evaluation methods, the potential of Silurian shale oil resources in the study area was evaluated by the Monte Carlo simulation combining volume and analogy method. The results suggest that the Arabian Plate and the North African Platform separated after Miocene, ending the history of coevolution in the northern margin of the Gondwana continent.A set of Lower Silurian Rhuddanian grayish-black marine shale with type?kerogen, commonly known as hot shale, widely developed during the transgression period in the area,TOC content is between 2%and 20%,which is the main source rock of Paleozoic oil and gas reservoir. With poor distribution continuity in the Arabian Plate, most of hot shale are at the high-post mature stage and gas-generation window, and can not meet the conditions for shale oil enrichment. The total area of nine prospective exploration zones of shale oil in North Africa is about 24.38×10~4km~2,which are concentrated in the Paleozoic basin except for the Ahnet Basin. The in place resources of the shale oil prospective zones in the study area are 1127.88×10~8t-333.99×10~8t,with an average of 733.83×10~8t under the 5%-95%probability;the recoverable resources are63.54×10~8t-7.35×10~8t,with an average of 35.44×10~8t under the 5%-95%probability.The potential of Silurian shale oil resources in the Middle East and North Africa regions are different from basin to basin obviously, and the research results can be used as an example for shale oil exploration and evaluation in China.
