Structural colors are produced by the interaction between visible light and nanostructures.In recent years,structural colors have become one of the research hotspot in nano-optics with the development of micro/nano fabrication.It has a wide application prospect in our daily life due to the advantages of environmental protection,high brightness,chemically/mechanically stable and so on.In this paper,we have investigated two research for transmission-type and reflection-type structural colors.For the transmission color filter,we demonstrated a multilayers structure in order to solve the problems of high costs and limitation of production throughput.The nanofilm color filters composed of CMOS-compatible materials with low cost,large-area,lithography free and fabricated easily,which have the potential in real life application.In this structure,the top Si3N4/SiO2/a-Si film can be regarded as an asymmetric F-P cavity for wavelength selection,and the spectra can be tuned by increasing the thickness of SiO2 film,which can be used to control the filtered colors.We not only demonstrate a high transmission(70%) of our device,but also explore the angle tolerance which has a stable performance of color display in the range of 0° to 30°.Furthermore,we explore the influence for polarization angle of incident light.The filtered colors and the transmission spectra maintain the same when the polarization angle increasing from 0° to 90°.The transmission images of fabricated samples show high quality colors against a background of a building in the university,which can be observed clearly through the filters.It proves the excellent performance of this device.Therefore,the color filter with high transmission,large-area,polarization independent and good angle tolerance will have great potential in advanced display.For reflection color filter,we have done a series of research on brightness control of structural color.There are many color filters concentrated on the hub and saturation of colors,however,researches on the brightness property of color are rarely.So,we proposed a structure that included the Al nanorods on the glass substrate,and realized a dynamic regulation of the brightness.With increasing the polarization angle of incident light,the brightness of structure colors will change from bright to dark.Moreover,full color display can be realized by changing the period and the size of microstructure.We also analyze the relationship between the period and the resonant wavelength,which will help us to predict the position of resonant wavelength and colors.Our structure has high reflection efficiency(>54%),narrow bandwidth,purity colors,and we can obviously observe the variation of brightness and the further details in the figures.Therefore,this reflection color filter can be applied in many fields such as image display with high reflection,narrow bandwidth and variation of brightness.
