Indium was discretely distributed in nature, which was mainly recovered from by-product produced by smelting non-ferrous metals. In this study, the copper smelting waste material was used to recover indium. The acid infusion mixed with copper, lead and indium ions from the copper smelting waste material was the direct object of the study. In this paper, two methods were used to separate and enrich indium, one was the traditional extraction, and the other was the use of polymer inclusion membrane.Extraction was studied about the conditions of separation and enrichment of indium, the bis-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid(D2EHPA,P204)was extraction agent and hydrochloric acid solution was stripping agent. The effects of acidity,P204 volume fraction, the time of extraction and other factors to extraction was studied, the results showed that the optimum extraction conditions for indium were at room temperature(23 ± 2 ?),extraction acidity could be from 0.2 to 0.8 mol/L,P204 volume fraction was 30%,the ratio of oil phase to solution(O/A)was 1:3,extraction time was 4min,extraction rate of indium could reach more than 90%.Influence factors explored of reverse extraction was include hydrochloric acid concentration, reverse the extraction time, the ratio of oil phase to solution(O/A)and reverse extraction times, the reverse extraction rate was 96.83% after three reverse extraction when the hydrochloric acid concentration was 4 mol/L,the ratio of oil phase to solution(O/A)was 10:1 and the extraction time was 10 min.The removal rate of lead ions in solution could reach 99.9% in the method of sulfate precipitation, when the extraction acid concentration was 0.8mol/L in solution, the copper could be effectively inhibited in the extraction of indium process.Analog Jinchuan acid infusion solution of copper smelting slag contained copper, lead and indium, and the concentrations were 6502.5mg/L,6350.2mg/L and 84.8mg/L respectively, after secondary separation and enrichment of indium operations the concentration of copper, lead and indium became 0,28.9mg/L and 15183.5mg.A polymer inclusion membrane(PIM)system with polyvinyl-chloride(PVC)as support and bis-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid(D2EHPA)as carriers has been developed. The facilitated transport for indium(?)ions was studied and special attention was paid to PIMs characterization using X-ray diffractogram, scanning electron microscope(SEM)and Atomic Force Microscope(AFM).The results showed that the transport was facilitated transport and it was consistent with the first order kinetics equation. When the carrier content of PIM was69%,pH of feed phase was 4,the concentration of hydrochloric acid in analytical phase of 6 mol/L,transport of indium had the highest transfer rate, and it decreased with the increase of thickness of the PIM,stability of PIM increased with the increase of thickness of the PIM.The transport was controlled by both diffusion and chemical reaction for the activation energy was 39.08 KJ/mol at 286?328 K.In the solution containing indium and copper, the PIM showed a good selectivity separation to the indium.
