Diamond is the hardest substance in the world and plays an important role in the field of grinding.Making the best of the grinding potential of diamond is a major issue.As an abrasive,diamond is generally applied in high-precision grinding,rather than the field of iron and steel processing.The main reasons are: grinding heat is high,diamond surface is easy to burn;C and Fe elements are easy to diffuse,and the diamond surface has a problem of iron attachment.To solve above problems,this article combines brazing filler with ceramic binder to develop a new type of brazing ceramic-diamond segments,then cermet diamond grinding wheel was prepared.The grinding wheel is tested by processing U71 Mn steel,including material removal ratio and grinding wheel wearing ratio.It is aimed to reduce the grinding heat and iron sticking problem.The main work includes:(1)Basic ceramic binder was designed,the results showed how different components affect basic ceramic binder,and the basic ceramic binder that matched the properties of brazing filler metal was determined.(2)New type of cermet diamond segment was prepared.Cu-Sn-Ti brazing filler was optimized,and the effect of ceramic-to-metal filler volume ratio was studied,as well as brazing process.The optical microscope,scanning electron microscope(SEM),and X-ray diffraction(XRD)were used to analyze the specimens.The results showed that when the brazing temperature was 925 ℃,the holding time was 30 minutes,the ceramic-to-metal filler volume ratio was 2.5,cermet binder formed a dense network and wetted the diamond surface well.New phase Ti C was generated,which improved the holding strength and the bending strength of the segments.(3)Develope a new type of segment grinding wheel which was aimed to process U71 Mn steel.The effects of volume ratio of ceramic and filler metal on grinding performance was studied,and then compared with traditional ceramic diamond grinding wheels.The comparison showed that when the ceramic-to-filler metal volume ratio is 2.5,the material removal rate of the new segment grinding wheel was increased by 40% compared with the traditional grinding wheel.The filler metal enhanced the holding strength,chip space was increased,and grinding heat and iron attachment were reduced.This article introduces the ceramic phase into the brazing grinding wheel,deepens the understanding of the diamond-filler metal-ceramic system,and provides a scientific reference for the further development of superhard tools with cermet binder.
