Effects Of Three Kinds Of Genuine Henan Traditional Chinese Medicine Essential Oils On Oxidative Stability And Sensory Properties Of Sunflower Oil

The quality of sunflower oil is deeply affected by oxidative deterioration.Oxidative deterioration of sunflower oil can cause lipid peroxidation,declination of cell function,tissue atrophy,and lead to varieties of serious diseases such as cancer,aging,coronary heart disease and stenocardia for human.In accordance with previous studies,numerous traditional Chinese medicines were identified to possess antioxidant capacity.In this study,three kinds of genuine Henan traditional Chinese medicines(HTCM)including the Punica granatum cv.Heyinshiliu peels from Xinyang,Magnolia liliflora Desr.from Nanyang and Huai Chrysanthemum ×morifolium Ramat.from Jiaozuo were chosen as the raw materials.Then,the extraction conditions of the essential oils from these three kinds of genuine HTCM were optimized and the chemical components of the essential oils were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.Moreover,antioxidative activity in vitro of the essential oils were investigated.Subsequently,the effects of the essential oils from HTCM on the oxidative stability and sensory property of sunflower oil were investigated during the high-temperature storage.(1)Optimization of the extraction conditions of three kinds of essential oils from HTCM by using response surface methodology.The results showed that the regression models can well represent the yields of the essential oils from three kinds of genuine HTCM with the lack of fit was not significant.Moreover,the influence factors on the yield of three kinds essential oils were all as follows:distillation time > soak period > solid-liquid ratio.The yield of Punica granatum cv.Heyinshiliu peels essential oil(PPEO)and Magnolia liliflora Desr.essential oil(MLEO)can be remarkably affected(p < 0.01)by distillation time and the yield of Huai Chrysanthemum× morifolium Ramat.essential oil(HCEO)can be significantly influenced(p < 0.05)by distillation time.Under the condition of solid-liquid ratio 1:16.2,distillation time 9.6 h and soaking period 9.7 h,the yield of PPEO was 0.682% ± 0.004%;under the condition of solidliquid ratio 1:16.2,distillation time 9.3 h and soaking period 9.7 h,the yield of MLEO was1.021% ± 0.011%;under the condition of solid-liquid ratio 1:14.0,distillation time 8.5 h and soaking period 9.7 h,the yield of HCEO was 0.507% ± 0.008%.(2)Study on the chemical components and antioxidative activity of three kinds of essential oils from HTCM.The results showed that the main compounds in PPEO was methyl palmitate(26.0%),myrcene(22.0%),2,6,11,15-tetramethyl hexadecane(10.2%)and 7-pentadecyne(6.77%);main compounds in MLEO was β-pinene(13.67%),cineole(10.87%),α-pinene(7.51%),sabinene(7.51%)and(+)-limonene(5.78%);main compounds in HCEO was methyl linoleate(13.2%),methyl oleate(13.0%),(±)-camphor(11.8%),cineole(10.4%),methyl stearate(5.7%),β-sesquiphellandrene(3.4%),methyl stearate(3.1%),trans-β-farnesene(3.1%)and chamazulene(3.1%).Moreover,although the antioxidative activities of PPEO,MLEO and HCEO were different,these essential oils were verified to have antioxidant effects and the antioxidant capacity were as follows: PPEO > HCEO > MLEO.(3)The effects of the essential oils from HTCM on the oxidative stability and sensory property of sunflower oil.In accordance with the results for the antioxidative activity of three kinds of essential oils,PPEO,MLEO and HCEO were able to inhibit the lipid oxidation and transformation for the fatty acids of sunflower oil.Among the three kinds of essential oils from HTCM,800 mg/kg PPEO could show effective antioxidant effects in comparing with MLEO and HCEO at 1600mg/kg.Furthermore,with the particular sensory characteristics of the PPEO,MLEO and HCEO,the flavor,taste,appearance and overall acceptability of sunflower oil could be improved by these essential oils.Consequently,PPEO,MLEO and HCEO have the potential to be developed as the natural antioxidants for improving oxidative stability and sensory property of sunflower oil.According to this study,theoretical basis for the application and development of HTCM could be provided and theoretical support for the development of plant essential oils as natural antioxidants could be also provided.
