Research On The Environmental Impact Of Foreign Direct Investment On Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration

With the increasing amount of foreign capital introduced into Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration in recent years,foreign investment has become an important driving force for the economic growth of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration,but at the same time,the negative impact of the introduction of foreign investment on the environment cannot be ignored.It is necessary to clarify the relationship between foreign direct investment and the environment,find a balance point to achieve a "winwin" situation between economic development and environmental protection,and guide foreign investment in a direction that is favorable to the environment.This paper extensively consults the current status of relevant literature on the impact of foreign direct investment on the environment,summarizes the research based on the previous generations,and in-depth discusses the positive and negative effects of foreign direct investment on host countries’ environmental pollution.The classic theory analyzes the mechanism and ways of foreign investment and the environmental impact of the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration.The impact mechanism of foreign direct investment on host country’s environmental pollution is expounded from three aspects: scale effect,structural effect,and technical effect.The data of the ChengduChongqing urban agglomeration from 2001 to 2015 is a research sample.Using environmental pollution indicators such as industrial sulfur dioxide emissions,industrial wastewater emissions,and industrial soot emissions,an LMDI decomposition model and regression model are constructed for empirical analysis;a comprehensive LMDI decomposition model And the results from the regression model,the results show that foreign direct investment as a whole will increase the industrial sulfur dioxide and industrial wastewater emissions in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration,and has no significant impact on industrial soot emissions.Therefore,it is proposed that the government should strengthen environmental regulations to improve the quality of foreign investment,enhance environmental awareness,and other measures to help improve the quality of foreign investment.
