| Volatile organic compounds(VOCs),including formaldehyde,benzene are one of the most serious indoor air pollutants.Research on the removal and purification of VOCs from indoor air is necessary because of their wide sources and sustained release characteristics.This paper focuses on the purification ability of plant living walls for indoor VOCs.Through field research and experimental research to evaluate the purification effect of living walls,and explore methods to enhance the purification ability of living walls.Based on the field investigation,this paper summarizes the structure form and space effect of the existing indoor living walls in Wuhan,and On-site measurement was conducted on the space with and without living walls with the same functional attributes inside the building.The results show that compared with the space without living walls in the same building,the space with living walls has lower VOCs and CO2 concentration;in terms of temperature and humidity,the average temperature of the space with living walls is lower,while the relative humidity is generally higher than the space without living walls.Therefore,the setting of the living walls in the building should be rationally combined with the spatial relationship and the density of people.In order to explore the relationship between the substrates,air volume,wind direction and purification capacity of the living walls,a new modular wall construction system with replaceable substrate,adjustable air volume,and changeable wind direction was designed.Exploring the effect of formaldehyde purification on living walls through experiments The results show that the coconut shell and peat soil living walls can improve its purification effect by changing the air volume.The greater the airflow,the better the purification effect.Although the medium and low air volume biological cotton living walls can enhance the purification efficiency in a short time,the later purification effect cannot be guaranteed.Only the air volume can be increased to maintain its long-term purification efficiency.However,for the rural soil living walls,increasing the air volume reduces the purification capacity.The purification performance of the coconut shell and peat soil living walls was verified in the actual space.Similar to the results of the laboratory,changing the air volume can effectively improve the purification ability of the living walls.However,with the long-term progress of the actual measurement time,the purification efficiency of the living walls may be reduced due to the saturation of the adsorption and purification of the living walls.This study focuses on improving the structure of indoor plant living walls to optimize their purification ability.Based on the results of experimental studies,the aim is to maximize the positive effects of living walls purification and achieve the best results. |
